A bid was submitted to Big Lottery ( Growing Community Assets) for £1.07m. The BL board sat to decide to consider the bid on 7th September. Sadly the bid was not successful so we have  responded to the points made by the Big Lottery- Growing Community Assets team and are having another go in December. WISH US LUCK!!!

May 2016

The Trustees of the Meadows Park have applied for and been granted leave by the Lord Advocate of Scotland to vary the terms of their Deed of Trust to permit them to sell a portion of the Meadows Park to DADCA for the purposes of building a new community Centre for the Dornoch area there.  This now clears the way for DADCA to finalise and submit an application to The Big lottery for £1m to help fund the new building. The bid has been prepared by Sandy Anderson in liaison with the DADCA New Build Committee and we are very grateful to Sandy for his meticulous work on out behalf.

Dec 2015

Dornoch and District Community Association (DADCA) is celebrating the success of its recent public consultation on plans for a new Community Centre on part of Dornoch’s Meadows Park. And DADCA partners Meadows Park Trust have received very clear backing for their proposal to transfer part of Meadows Park to DADCA ownership to enable the new building to be built.

In order to bid for Big Lottery funding, DADCA needs to own the land the building will be erected on – and Meadows Park Trustees need to take legal steps to permit this. So the consultation had two purposes: not only to give Dornoch people the chance to tell DADCA how they would like to use the new building, but also to tell Meadows Park Trustees whether Dornoch people wish the land ownership transfer to take place

Large numbers of Dornoch people participated in the consultation, with 534 responding and 498 of these voting in the land ownership transfer ballot. That votewas decisive: 463 people voted “yes”– that is more than 86% of everyone who responded and 93% of those who voted in the ballot. Total number of people who voted “no” was 35.

DADCA Chairman William Sutherland said, “We are delighted that so many Dornoch people participated in this consultation they gave us lots of ideas which we will now work on and we are very grateful to the 63 volunteers who helped to distribute the ballot papers. We hope that Dornoch people can now unite behind our plans for a new community building.”

Willie MacKay, Chair of Meadows Park Trustees, said, “Meadows Park Trustees see the benefits that a new Community Centre will bring to Dornoch. As Trustees however, we needed to be sure that we had the backing of local people for the decision to transfer the ownership a modest part of Meadows Park to DADCA.. We are pleased to have such strong backing to proceed with the required legal steps to achieve this.”

Panning Permission Approved

11 March 2015 - DADCA are delighted to have published the following Press Release today.

Dornoch and District Community Association (DADCA) is celebrating the award of detailed planning permission for a new Community Centre on part of Dornoch’s Meadows Park.

The prestigious contract for designing the new building, and for bringing it to the detailed planning stage, was awarded last April to Angus Design Associates Ltd, of Hamilton, Lanarkshire, a firm which boasts extensive experience and expertise in the design of community buildings.

Now the impressive building which Angus Design Associates designed, in close cooperation with DADCA board and in consultation with Dornoch Meadows Park Trustees and other interested parties, has gained the Highland Council Planning Department’s seal of approval – a vital step towards its completion.  Its planned location near the western edge of Meadows Park will permit a huge range of community activities in the building, without adversely affecting Dornoch Football Club or Dornoch Highland Gathering.

DADCA Chairman Jerry Bishop said, “Our extensive community consultations over the past five years have shown that the people of Dornoch urgently need and want a new community building fit for the twenty-first century.  That aspiration has taken a significant step towards reality with the award of detailed planning permission.  DADCA is grateful for the Big Lottery funding which has taken us to this stage, and for the cooperation of Meadows Park Trustees, Dornoch Football Club and the Highland Games Committee in our efforts.  Now our application for further Big Lottery Fund assistance, to help erect the new building, is well advanced, and DADCA board members look forward to working with Dornoch Meadows Park Trustees to turning our plans into reality.”

Willie MacKay, Chair of Meadows Park Trustees, said, “Both the Football Club and the Highland Games committees see the benefits that a new Community Centre will bring to Dornoch. While the Trustees still have constitutional issues to be resolved we are working to come to a satisfactory outcome and we hope to be in a position to meet formally with DADCA soon.

17 April 2014 - DADCA is delighted to announce the appointment of Angus Design Associates (ADA) as the Architect to lead the design team for Stage 1 of the new build project.

A three-person panel assessed the nine tenders which were submitted and were unanimous in their decision to select ADA as the preferred bidder. This decision was subsequently ratified by our case officers at the Big Lottery Fund who are fully funding the initial design phase of the project.

The next steps are a) to conduct all the on-site construction surveys at Meadows Park and b) for the Architects to draw up initial design sketches based on the information supplied by DADCA and from the ideas which came from the public meetings and consultation last year. The design sketches will be presented at a public meeting later in the year (date TBC).

For more information on the project please contact info@dadca.org.uk

14 March 2014 - We have received a total of 9 tenders from Architects interested in leading the design phase of our new build project. We will be assessing these over the new few days and then formally applying to Big Lottery for the funds to allow us to place the contract. We hope to be able to appoint the Architect to lead the design team by mid April.

29 January 2014LOTTERY WIN FOR DORNOCH! Local community organisation, Dornoch and District Community Association (DADCA) is celebrating an award from the Big Lottery to help with the building of a new Community Centre for Dornoch. Following a DADCA bid in September, Big Lottery has just given the green light for around £50,000 of Development funding to be made available to DADCA. This generous award will be used to pay for DADCA costs in engaging an architect-led design team to prepare detailed plans for a new Community Centre, and to secure detailed planning permission for the new building.

Following the outcome of a Feasibility Study carried out in 2010, and of two rounds of community consultations, DADCA has been able to demonstrate strong community support for a new community building.  The intended site for the new Dornoch Community Centre is Dornoch’s Meadows Park, whose trustees have already given assurances of their support.

DADCA Chairman Jerry Bishop said, “This really is a giant leap for our plans for a new Community Centre for Dornoch.  Our current building – Dornoch Social Club – is very heavily used.  It is no longer fit for purpose, because it is very expensive to run, difficult to access, and just not big enough – we are having to turn some people away.  Dornoch is a growing community, and this new Community Centre is sorely needed.”

Highland Councillor Jim McGillivray agreed.  “DADCA has worked long and hard for this success,” he said.  The Big Lottery has very rigorous selection processes, and for DADCA to receive this award is a real feather in the community’s cap.  I hope and expect that DADCA will seek Stage 2 Big Lottery support to build the new building in due course, and this first success must give real optimism that this new Centre will come to fruition soon.”

DADCA expects to advertise shortly for suitably-experienced architect firms to carry out this work.

16 October 2013 - Today we submitted our application to Big Lottery : Growing Community Assets for assistance with our New Build Project. Big Lottery aim to notify us of their decision within 9 weeks (i.e by 18th December).

All the documents that we created in support of our bid can be seen by clicking on the links below :-

28 August 2013 - Today we received the decision from the Planning Department regarding our Pre-Application Planning request for a Community Centre on Meadows Park (13/02296/PREAPP).

The good news is that the planners have indicated that they would support such a planning application!

The Dornoch Social Club building is over 150 years old and, despite some much needed repair work to get the Club open for business again in February 2007 following its enforced closure, moving to a new building is of utmost priority for all of us.

In April 2007 we unveiled the results of a survey amongst local people to determine what they wanted from a community building. The results at that time were overwhelmingly in favour of relocation.

This consultation lead to the DADCA Committee sourcing funding assistance from Leader to produce a Feasibility Study into the options for a new build, the results of which were delivered to the people of Dornoch via an exhibition and public meeting at the begining of October 2008.

At the meeting there was almost unanimous support for moving ahead with the process of providing a new community building on the preferred site of Meadows Park. However the project was put on hold at the request of the Dornoch Academy Parent Council, who had hopes of building a much needed Sports Hall at the School.

In 2012 the Sports Hall became part of Highland Council's Captial Expediture Programme, and with this came the opportunity for DADCA to re-start the project of replacing the Social Club.

In February 2013 the DADCA Board reached an outline agreement with the Trustees of Meadows Park which makes a suitable site available to allow DADCA to proceed with an application for Phase 1 Development Funding for the project from the Big Lottery.Growing Community Assets funding stream.

Before moving forward with this application DADCA needed to check that the community were still behind the idea, and ran a community consultation (by means of a paper questionnaire with a duplicate on-line survey) from Friday 8th March to Monday 8th April 2013. The results of this survey were revealed at a Public Meeting and Exhibition in the Social Club on Friday 12th April. To view these results click here.
